Make a small bathroom visually larger with a seamless finish
“Our bathroom is actually quite small, can your finish make it look larger?” We hear that question often, and the answer is a resounding yes. A small bathroom feels smaller mainly due to everything that interrupts the eye: grout lines, thresholds, corners, and edges.
I’m Dieter Provoost, owner of Voegloze Badkamer. In this blog, I’ll share how a seamless finish and a few clever choices can make your small bathroom feel much more spacious.

Why grout makes a small space appear smaller
Every grout line is a visual barrier that stops your eye. In a large bathroom, this is barely noticeable, but in a small space, that grid of tiles and grout fragments the view, and it’s precisely this fragmentation that makes a bathroom feel cramped. Remove those lines, and your eye has free rein, making the same space instantly appear larger.
One continuous finish = calm & space
In a Voegloze Badkamer, the floor, walls, shower, and even the furniture flow into one continuous whole. Without interruption, your gaze effortlessly wanders from floor to wall, and your brain interprets this as “more space”.
- No visual breaks: one material, one colour, one calm surface
- Continuous shower: a level-access walk-in shower in the same finish allows the floor to simply flow through
- Less maintenance: no grout to scrub, so you gain space and time
For us, that time-saving isn’t a side issue but the core: a bathroom that requires hardly any maintenance gives you time back for the things that truly matter.

Colour & light that create space
Colour greatly determines how large a space appears. Our finish is available in all RAL colours, so you have freedom, but for a small bathroom, a few principles almost always work:
- Choose light and warm: soft, warm tones reflect light and seemingly push the walls back
- Keep it tone-on-tone: floor and wall in the same or a closely related colour blur the boundary between them
- Play with light: a seamless, matt surface spreads light beautifully and evenly, without harsh reflections
Clever interventions that gain square metres
Besides the finish, a few interventions make a big difference in a small bathroom. Curious to see what that looks like in real life? Be sure to browse our completed projects or discover the bathroom trends of 2027.
Level-access walk-in shower
No glass screen full of limescale or raised edge dividing the space
Integrated niches
Storage space within the wall instead of freestanding shelves that take up room
Floating vanity unit
A unit that doesn’t reach the floor allows the floor to flow through and appears lighter
Replace bath with shower
Often the best way to gain space. Read more about it in our blog on shower renovation.
Frequently asked questions
Does a bathroom without tiles really make a small space larger?
Visually, yes. Grout lines interrupt the view and make a small space feel fragmented and cramped. A seamless, continuous finish removes these lines, allowing the eye free rein and making the same space appear larger.
Which colour is best to choose for a small bathroom?
Soft, warm, and light tones reflect light and make the walls seem further away. Keeping the floor and wall tone-on-tone also blurs the boundary between them. Our finish is available in all RAL colours.
Which interventions gain space in a small bathroom?
A level-access walk-in shower, integrated niches instead of freestanding shelves, a floating vanity unit, and replacing a bath with a shower collectively make a big difference.
Is a seamless finish suitable for a small area?
Absolutely. The finish is applied custom-made and is a great advantage especially in small spaces, as it doesn’t visually divide the room.
