Seamless walk-in shower without tiles: 100% waterproof & non-slip
During almost every site visit, we hear two questions as soon as we mention a shower floor without tiles: “Doesn’t a floor like that become slippery?” and “Does it really stay waterproof?” Two valid questions, because the shower floor is exactly where it matters most.
I am Dieter Provoost, Managing Director of Voegloze Badkamer. In this blog, I will honestly explain how a seamless walk-in shower works, why it is safer and easier to maintain than a tiled shower, and what you should look out for.
In this blog post
Why choose a shower without tiles?
A classic tiled shower has one weak link: the joints. That is where limescale and dirt accumulate, where water seeps in, and where that grey or black deposit appears over time. With a seamless finish, that weak link disappears completely. The floor, walls, and even the niches flow together into one continuous whole.
The result is a shower that looks calm and spacious, and which you can have clean in minutes. That is exactly where our vision lies: a Voegloze Badkamer gives you time back, because you hardly have any maintenance to do.

"Doesn't it get slippery?"
The most important concern, and rightly so. A shower floor must be safe, even with soap and water. That is why we work with a certified non-slip finish on the shower floor: the top layer is given a fine texture that provides grip, without losing comfort under your feet.
- Grip where it counts: the floor gets a non-slip texture, while the walls remain smooth and easy to clean
- Safe for all ages: ideal if you want to design your bathroom for the future (read our blog post on adaptable living)
- Comfortable: no cold, hard tile edges or grout lines under your feet
"Does it really stay waterproof?"
Our finish is built around Polycoat: a glass-fibre reinforced polyester with resin that is 100% waterproof and applied completely seamlessly. Because there is not a single joint or seam, there is no place where water can penetrate. Your shower floor and walls literally form one impenetrable surface.
What’s more, the glass-fibre reinforcement makes the finish elastic and tear-resistant. Where microcement or mortex can crack with slight movement in the substrate, Polycoat remains tear-free and therefore waterproof in the long term. Want to know more about this difference? We explain it in our blog on why we choose Polynature.
Level-access, spacious & easy to maintain
Because we finish everything seamlessly, we can create your walk-in shower with level-access. This not only looks more spacious and calm, but it also makes stepping in and out much more comfortable. Extras such as a built-in bench or custom niches are included in the same finish, so that shampoo and soap are neatly kept out of sight.
- Greater sense of space: no disruptive threshold or glass profiles covered in limescale
- Faster to clean: wipe down one surface instead of scrubbing joints
- Bespoke: if you choose Polynature, you also get a warm mortex look

Frequently asked questions
Is a shower floor without tiles not slippery?
No. On the shower floor, we work with a certified non-slip finish: the top layer is given a fine texture that provides grip, even with soap and water, while the walls remain smooth and easy to clean.
Is a seamless walk-in shower really 100% waterproof?
Yes. The finish is built around Polycoat, a glass-fibre reinforced polyester that is 100% waterproof and completely seamless. Because there are no joints or seams, there is no place where water can penetrate.
Can a walk-in shower without tiles be level-access?
Certainly. Because we finish everything seamlessly, we can design the shower with level-access. This looks more spacious and makes stepping in and out more comfortable and safer.
How do I maintain a seamless shower floor?
Very simple: wipe down one continuous surface, with no joints to scrub. This way, you keep your shower clean in minutes and have hardly any maintenance to do.
