Everything about a seamless bathroom
Seamless, 100% waterproof and low-maintenance with Polycoat and Polynature. And because we take care of your entire bathroom, from design to finish, you will find clear answers here to the most frequently asked questions.
Voegloze Badkamer explained briefly
Can a seamless finish also be used in the shower and on the shower floor?
Certainly, the shower is exactly where our approach works best. Because Polycoat is waterproof throughout, crack-bridging, and impact-resistant, it is perfectly suited for wet areas with permanent water and temperature contact.
While beton ciré or tadelakt are often discouraged in the direct path of a water jet, here you can have the entire shower flow seamlessly without any worries: floor, walls, and even a bench or niche all in one piece.
Is a jointless bathroom really completely waterproof?
Yes, the Polycoat base layer is glass-fibre reinforced and 100% waterproof throughout. The water isn’t held back by a single thin layer of sealer on top, but by the material itself, through its entire thickness.
That’s a key difference compared to many classic concrete-look finishes, which are only water-resistant on their own and rely entirely on a sealer that needs regular renewal. With us, the waterproofing is built-in, including in the joints between the floor and wall, meaning you have less maintenance and don’t have to worry about moisture getting in.
What is the difference between Polycoat and Polynature?
Polycoat is a fibreglass-reinforced polyester system that is fully waterproof throughout. It’s sleek, seamless, and available in all RAL colours. It’s ideal if you’re looking for a minimalist, modern aesthetic.
Polynature starts with the same waterproof Polycoat base, with additional hand-trowelled polymer layers applied on top. This achieves the warm, vibrant look of mortex, beton ciré, or tadelakt, but with the strength and waterproofing of the underlying fibreglass layer. So, you choose based on your desired style, while the underlying reliability remains the same.
What exactly is a Voegloze Badkamer?
A Voegloze Badkamer is a bathroom where the walls, floor, and often the shower and bath as well, are finished in one continuous, seamless surface, without tiles and therefore without grout. At Voegloze Badkamer, we do this using two proprietary systems: Polycoat, a sleek minimalist finish, and Polynature, which has a warm, artisanal concrete-stucco look.
Because there’s no grout, there’s no place for dirt, limescale, and mould to accumulate. You get a calm, timeless aesthetic that’s easier to keep clean. A bathroom that brings peace, not work.
Polynature alongside mortex, beton ciré, tadelakt & microcement
Are beton ciré or tadelakt actually waterproof enough for a bathroom?
Beton ciré and tadelakt are water-resistant by nature, not waterproof: their protection depends on a sealer or correct application, and surfaces in the shower area especially are under heavy use. Even a small amount of damage can allow water to seep underneath, which can lead to staining or sections coming loose.
That is exactly why we use a glass-fibre reinforced, mass-waterproof base for our seamless bathrooms. This way, you don’t have to choose between the look you love and the peace of mind that it will stay truly dry – you get both.
Why do Mortex and microcement sometimes crack, but Polycoat and Polynature don’t?
Cement-based finishes such as Mortex and microcement are rigid. If the substrate moves, for example, a tile coming loose, a slight structural movement, or hollow spots, this tension can transfer to the top layer and cause cracks.
Our finish is fibreglass-reinforced, making it elastic and crack-bridging: small movements in the substrate are absorbed rather than transferred. This is precisely why the finish lasts for generations, even with daily use.
Does Polynature give the same look as tadelakt or beton ciré?
Yes, Polynature is applied by hand with a trowel in multiple polymer layers, giving you the natural depth, colour variations, and the vibrant, artisanal character that people look for in tadelakt, mortex or beton ciré. Each wall is unique.
The difference isn’t in the appearance, but in its long-term performance: not a fragile lime-based surface that dulls with the wrong cleaner, but a robust finish that can withstand intensive bathroom use.
What is the difference between Polynature and mortex, béton ciré or microcement?
Their appearance is very similar, and that’s precisely the intention. The difference lies in their construction. Mortex, béton ciré and microcement are cement-based finishes that are relatively rigid and derive their waterproofing from a top sealer. If that sealer becomes damaged, moisture can penetrate.
Polynature achieves the same artisanal look, but it rests on a fibreglass-reinforced Polycoat layer that is waterproof throughout its mass. This layer is elastic and crack-bridging, rather than rigid. So, you get the same warm concrete look, with performance that surpasses classic microtopping.
What it costs & how to start
How to request a quote or a site visit?
Simply get in touch, and we’ll schedule a no-obligation site visit. You can reach us by email at info@voeglozebadkamer.be or by phone on +32 468 47 49 12 for advice and quotes. Our showroom in Ledegem can be visited by appointment.
Tell us briefly about your project, whether it’s a renovation or new build, and what you have in mind, and we’ll guide you from the initial consultation to aftercare as a single partner.
How much does a Voegloze Badkamer cost?
That varies from project to project. The price depends on the surface area, the chosen finish (Polycoat or Polynature), the condition of the substrate and the extent to which you want your floor, walls and shower to flow into one another. That is why we do not work with fixed prices per square metre that turn out to be incorrect afterwards.
After a site visit, you will receive a clear, bespoke quote with no surprises. This way, you know exactly what your investment will deliver before you decide anything.
Your style down to the last detail
Can I combine the floor, walls, bath, and vanity into one seamless whole?
Yes, and that is exactly where the power of a seamless finish lies. The floor, walls, shower, bath surround, a niche or a vanity unit can all be finished in the same material and colour, without any interruptions or distracting transitions. This creates a calm, spacious and timeless effect: the bathroom as one cohesive whole instead of a collection of separate surfaces.
Which colours and finishes are available?
With Polycoat, you can choose from all RAL colours, from a soft, calming neutral to a bold shade, always with a sleek, even look. With Polynature, you opt for a warm, artisanal concrete stucco look with natural depth and nuances, in the style of mortex, beton ciré or tadelakt.
We’d be happy to discuss which direction suits you best. Feel free to request our style book or visit our showroom to see materials and colours in person.
Together towards a seamless whole
Does this also work in new builds and timber frame construction?
Yes, the glass-fibre reinforced structure is suitable for both traditional and timber frame construction, and is just as at home in a new build project as in a renovation. Thanks to its dimensional stability and inherent waterproofing, it is a reliable choice, even on substrates that may shift slightly.
How does the journey from first contact to your finished bathroom unfold?
We guide you as a single partner from start to finish, in four steps:
- Introduction and site visit: we listen to your wishes and inspect the space and the substrate on-site.
- Material selection and quote: together we choose Polycoat or Polynature, colour and finish, and you receive a clear, bespoke quote.
- Start of the works: our craftsmen build up the seamless finish layer by layer.
- Completion and aftercare: we go over the result together and you can contact us with any questions afterwards.
This way you have a single point of contact and don’t have to coordinate different parties yourself. The design, plumbing, electricity and custom work are also included in that process.
How long does installation take and how long will my bathroom be out of use?
That depends on the surface area, the chosen finish and the condition of the substrate. A seamless finish is built up in several layers, each with the necessary drying time in between, so we plan that carefully.
During the site visit, you’ll get a realistic timeline for your project, so you know exactly what to expect. We’d rather not make a general promise that might not be right for your bathroom.
Can the finish be applied over existing tiles, without ripping everything out?
In many cases, yes. One of the great advantages of a seamless finish is that it can often be built up directly on an existing, stable substrate (including tiles) so you don’t have to rip everything out. That saves on dust, debris removal and working days.
Whether it’s possible in your situation depends on the state of the substrate. Loose or hollow-sounding tiles must be dealt with first. That’s why we always start with a site visit: we’ll check the substrate and give you an honest assessment of what’s possible.
One partner for your entire bathroom
Can you also take care of the design for my new bathroom?
Of course, from the first site visit, we’ll help you consider the layout, materials, colours, and ambience. Your bathroom will then evolve step-by-step from an idea into a well-considered, 100% bespoke design that suits your home, family, and how you want to use the space.
Do I need to arrange a plumber, electrician, or carpenter myself?
No, plumbing, electrics, joinery, and bespoke solutions are all included in our approach. You don’t need to find, compare, and coordinate different parties. We coordinate and execute everything, ensuring the process remains smooth and transparent.
Do you also make bespoke bathroom furniture and joinery?
Yes, we have our own workshop for custom work, allowing us to create vanity units, cabinets, built-in niches, and other joinery fully tailored to your space. No standard pieces that don’t quite fit, but furniture that seamlessly complements the finish and style of your bathroom.
Because we handle the custom work ourselves, the colour, lines, and finish flow beautifully throughout the entire design, creating precisely the calm and cohesion that makes a Voegloze Badkamer so pleasant.
Do you handle the complete bathroom renovation or just the seamless finish?
We take care of your entire bathroom, from start to finish. The seamless finish with Polycoat or Polynature is our speciality, but we manage the whole project: the design, plumbing installation, electrics, carpentry and bespoke solutions. This way, you have one partner and one point of contact instead of a series of individual tradespeople you have to coordinate yourself.
That means less stress, a tighter schedule, and a result where every detail is perfectly aligned.
A bathroom that moves with you
Is a Voegloze Badkamer suitable for an assisted living or accessible bathroom?
Very much so. A seamless, walk-in finish is ideal for an accessible bathroom: the shower can continue without a threshold, the smooth surface is easy to keep clean and there are no joints that trap dirt. We help you think about a safe, comfortable layout.
Depending on your needs, we take into account things like a wide turning circle, threshold-free doors, a certified anti-slip finish, a wheelchair-accessible washbasin, a raised toilet and contrasting colours for those with impaired vision. This creates a bathroom in which you or your loved one can move safely and independently with all the warmth and peace of mind that goes with it.
Staying beautiful with little effort
Does the finish discolour or yellow over time?
The surface is dense and non-porous, meaning it doesn’t absorb limescale, soap, or dirt like open, porous materials do. It’s exactly that absorption that causes dull spots and discolouration in classic finishes over the long term. Here, the colour stays even and easy to keep clean. A big difference in how your bathroom will still look in a few years’ time.
What if there’s ever a scratch or damage: can it be repaired?
Damage is uncommon thanks to the impact-resistant, crack-bridging structure. Should anything happen, a local repair is possible. We always assess this together and handle it professionally, ensuring the result seamlessly matches the rest.
How long does a Polycoat or Polynature finish last?
Our finishes are built to last for generations. The fibreglass reinforcement ensures high impact resistance and a long lifespan, even with heavy daily use, while the crack-bridging structure accommodates small movements of the substrate instead of allowing them to result in cracks. So, you’re investing in a finish that remains beautiful and functional, year after year.
Will I still get mould or black limescale in the joints?
No, because there aren’t any joints. In a classic tiled bathroom, those joints are exactly where dirt, bacteria and mould build up. By leaving them out completely, that weak spot disappears, which not only looks sleeker, but is also more hygienic and healthier for the whole family.
How do I maintain a Voegloze Badkamer?
It’s very simple. Because the surface is dense and seamless, regular wiping with water and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner is all that’s needed. There are no grout lines to scrub and no porous areas for grime to creep into.
You also don’t need to use harsh or acidic products, which are actually not recommended for classic lime-based finishes. Fewer products, less scrubbing, more time to simply enjoy your bathroom.
